Reminders:
Seasons and weather conditions affect drywall materials, installation and finishing. Sites finished in winter months can require more time and labor, and be more costly than sites finished in favorable months. Wood framed sites with inadequate heat functional for drywall installation and finishing in colder climates are likely to suffer cracking seams and other failures later on. For quality results, have a non-fluctuating heat source operational before drywall is delivered.
Adequate preparation includes a work space that is clean and dry (10 percent moisture content or less).
If dust barriers are required to protect existing spaces in a site, Pro Walls Drywall provides them.
Excepting one "hot" source located outside the work space, all electrical outlets and light boxes should be turned off at the breaker box.
For a drywall job to turn out well, insulation through out the structure is required. Jobs that are not insulated are likely to sustain water and / or frost damage through condensation.
To begin a quality, longer lasting drywall job, insulation needs to be installed, inspected and finished.
Successful and quality drywall finishing requires steady temperatures between 60o F and 85o F for compounds to dry. It's best to maintain temperatures within this range, and with air movement.
At the end of the finishing job, if any sanding is required, it is sometimes necessary for us to turn the furnace off. This prevents dust from circulating through the system and possibly damaging the filters inside the furnace.
Several visits to a job site are normally required to finish a drywall job.
Plumbing, electrical, insulating and moisture barrier work must be completed before we can begin hanging a site.
All hanging will be completed before finishing begins.
All finishing will be completed and dry before spraying begins.
Clean-up will be completed before painting begins.
Attempting to combine any or all of these stages together makes a job terribly inefficient and difficult for everyone, and often costs everyone extra money. Since the highest quality is our standard, we take measures to insure you receive it.
Exceptions to this rule begin on sites greater than 10,000 square feet, where work spaces can be clearly divided.
As taping and finishing progresses, windows and doors may be opened temporarily in order to let excess moisture outside. In some cases, windows may be left opened slightly over night.
If there are changes or repairs that must be made to a site, it's best to have them done before finishing begins.
